In this lesson, students learn how bees become the way they are through genetics. They learn about what hox genes are and how they work within not just bees but humans as well. In addition to learning about hox genes, they will learn about the protein Amfor and how it plays a role in the job determination in worker bees. They will learn about the Africanized bees, why they are so dangerous, and why they may be acting out in this way. They will also by the end of the lesson, know about haplipoidy--the bee sex determination--and how likeable traits are aquired.
